Written and performed by Cleo Sylvestre: everything you wanted and needed to know about the extraordinary Mary Seacole, Creole doctress, herbal healer, business woman and alternative to Florence Nightingale, who is best known for her work with the troops during the Crimean War.
Cleo is joint Artistic Director of the Rosemary Branch Theatre and an Ambassador for the Mary Seacole Memorial Statue Appeal (MSMSA). She is also an accomplished stage, screen and television actress, appearing in the film Kidulthood and making several shorts for the renowned director Isaac Julien including Vagabondia, which was shortlisted for The Turner Prize.
Recently she toured with Northern Broadsides Theatre playing the nurse in a new translation of Medea by tom Paulin.
The Marvellous Adventure of Mary Seacole has been performed at The National Portrait Gallery, Imperial College, the House of Lords, the Florence Nightingale Museum, Bowhill Theatre, numerous schools and other venues.
